Celta Vigo defender Joseph Aidoo has started his first Black Stars game in over a year as he is handed a starting role in coach Chris Hughton's lineup to face Angola in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Luanda.

The 27-year-old former Inter Allies center-back last started a game for the Black Stars in November 2021 against South Africa in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Soweto, South Africa, a game which ended 1-1.

Aidoo is stepping in for the injured Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku, who he replaced in the first fixture in at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

He has 11 goals overall for Ghana at senior level after making his debut in 2019 under coach Kwasi Appiah when he was 23 years.

The defender is the Ghanaian center-back with the most games and minutes played abroad this season for Celta Vigo. He featured in 26 league games and scored twice, keeping 8 clean sheets.
