Jurgen Klopp Has No Fears About Goodison Park Atmosphere as Liverpool Prepare for Merseyside Derby

Published on: 18 December 2016

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he has no fears ahead of Monday night's eagerly anticipated Merseyside derby, despite witnessing what Everton did to Arsenal in the atmosphere at Goodison Park only last week.

"No, not [for] a second," the German is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo when asked if he was worried about Everton.

"It is a fact that it can make a difference but I don't have any fears," he added. "I'm not afraid of it, it's only football. I like it. It makes the job a little bit different but at the end it is still the same job."

Everton came from behind to deal a blow to Arsenal's Premier League title hopes, and Klopp has no intention of downplaying their various strengths.

"Everton had been aggressive but they couldn't get the challenges where they wanted. Then Arsenal opened the game for them and Goodison Park ran through," Klopp explained.

"As a neutral football fan, things like this are nice to see. It is not easy, even in an outstanding atmosphere."

Klopp is also counting on Liverpool fans making the short journey across Stanley Park to make their voices heard and create an atmosphere of their own.

"Last year we had a really good away atmosphere in Manchester for the Europa League against United," he said. "We had a wonderful atmosphere against Dortmund in both games. The job is to make it is a difficult as possible for the crowd to enjoy the game."

Liverpool drew 1-1 with Everton at Goodison Park last season in a game that proved to be Brendan Rodgers' last in charge. Goals from Divock Origi, Mamdou Sakho, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho saw the Reds win 4-0 in the reverse fixture a few months later.
