Jurgen Klopp Insists Liverpool Will Spend This Summer After Admitting Squad Improvements Are Needed

Jurgen Klopp has assured Liverpoolsupporters that the club will spend money on transfers this summer, after falling well behind in the race for the title since the turn of the year.

Liverpool were embroiled in a title challenge earlier on in the season, but a run of one win from seven Premier League games from the start of January has seen the Reds slump to fifth, with the frailties of Klopp's squad clear for all to see.

James Milner has spent most of the season at left back, while Lucas Leiva has recently spent time in central defence because of issues in those areas.

As well as that, the goalkeeping position seems to continue to be a problem for the Reds, while more firepower in attack will be needed too.

The likes of Joe Hart have been linked with a move to Anfield for a number of months, though theMailreport that attacking pairJulian Brandt and Demarai Gray are on Klopp's summer shopping list.

Speaking on his future plans, Klopp said:"We have to improve the squad. That is clear. I don't doubt them as a group, but doubt doesn't mean that we cannot improve. For this moment in this season when we cannot make transfers any more, good, we have to concentrate on this.

"If we perform at the highest level, nobody asks for new players, if you don't, everybody asks for them. That is the situation we are in.We are working on it already, without looking too much on results. We will have to make transfers, of course.

"We can go for the players we want to go for, I am sure. But can we go for a player Manchester United want to go for?

"If Man Utd make an offer, if Chelsea make an offer, does it make sense to jump in? I don't know.So is it then about money, or is it that players think, 'Manchester is a nicer city', or 'I want to live in London instead of Liverpool'? We have to make a decision apart from what the other clubs want. We have to make a decision.

"If the club comes to me and says 'That is too expensive' - it didn't happen until now and I don't expect it to happen - I have to accept it. But we have all the same plan.We want to make this club as big and successful as possible. We will spend money."

Liverpool welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Saturday evening as they look to get back to winning ways in the race to make the Champions League places.
