Kotoko v Hearts of Oak independence game in doubt

Published on: 17 March 2020

The Independence Anniversary match between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak continues to be in doubt due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the latest statement from Barnet.

The two most glamourous clubs in Ghana have been billed for a titanic encounter next month in what will be a historic meeting between the sides.

Ahead of the match, the Coronavirus which is causing a scare worldwise remains a standing block as to whether it will come on or be postponed for the second time.

The virus has so far been recorded in over 130 countries and has killed at least 5,000 people while infecting over 150,000 persons. While it is not known when a vaccine will be ready, it is unlikely to see the match between the Phobians and the Porcupine Warriors being played.

In the latest development, the Barnet FC whose stadium will be used for the match seems to be going through a difficult period. Their finances don't look good and have forced them to put non-playing staff on notice of redundancy.

With the risk of COVID-19, the club will potentially not allow any team to play at their system, especially knowing that they will struggle to deal with the financial burden that will come when cases are recorded in their team.
