Late Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu has been posthumously recognized for his humanitarian efforts and named among the 100 Most Impactful Changemakers for the year 2022 by Humanitarian Awards Global.
Atsu, who played for top clubs such as Chelsea and Newcastle, was recognized for his prison advocacy work that helped free many inmates who couldn’t pay their fines.
Humanitarian Awards Global announced the annual list to celebrate individuals who have positively impacted Ghana and made a significant contribution to its development. The list features Ghanaians from various sectors, including profit, business, politics, media, science, sports, and public life.
The list is unranked, and the selection process involves nominations, extensive background checks on impact activities, and board justifications to shortlist the top 100 individuals. Metrics used in shortlisting include leadership drive, influence, consistency, and most importantly, community and social impact.
According to Humanitarian Awards Global, recognizing the efforts of these individuals and non-profit organizations would go a long way towards motivating them as they challenge the status quo in their respective fields.

The publication commended the change makers for reshaping history, closing inequality gaps, grooming leaders, pioneering new avenues of wealth creation, and in turn, lifting others with them.
