Leicester boss Shakespeare challenges Bournemouth target Gray to prove himself

Published on: 22 August 2017

Leicester City boss Craig Shakespeare has called on Demarai Gray to prove he's worthy of a first team start.

The Bournemouth target has since only been brought on in the 88th and 89th minutes so far in the top-flight this term.

But Gray, 21, is in line to start tonight at Championship Sheffield United in the League Cup ahead of the Foxes' trip to Old Trafford this Saturday.

Foxes boss Shakespeare said: “There are players chomping at the bit who deserve a chance.

“You saw in the pre-season games, we know what Demarai is capable of. It wasn't ideal on Saturday, no player would like four or five minutes, they want more than that, I understand that, but circumstances dictated that.

“He's training well. He's very focused. No plans for the weekend are set in stone. The chance is there for anybody, not just Demarai.

“Whoever plays, they have the chance to force the issue with me and put their name in the spotlight. It is important when their opportunity comes, they take it."
