Let’s disband the Black Stars - MP Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Samuel Nartey George has called for the disbandment of the Black Stars after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage exit.

The Black Stars failed to win a single game at an Africa Cup of Nations tournament for the second time in Ivory Coast and failed to progress from the group stage.

Sam George has been one of the biggest critics of the Ghana Football Association and the Sports Ministry for planning to spend such money in the face of the serious economic crises the country is facing.

“The Black Stars, let us disband the team. That is my view and I have held this view for long. It will not be the first time,” he said on Asempa FM.

“It was after we disbanded the Black Stars in 2001 and 2002, we went to the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup.

“Every time Kevin-Prince Boateng’s career drop, you want to play for the Black Stars. The Black Stars is and should be a place where you should feel the pride that you are wearing that jersey.”

Ghana missed out on a place in the Round of 16 after finishing third in a group consisting of Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique.

The Black Stars lost 2-1 to Cape Verde before back to back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique confirmed Ghana’s elimination from the tournament.
