Former Managing Director of Hearts of Oak, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe has called on Ghanaians to find a place in their hearts to forgive Mubarak Wakaso on his comments about partisan politics being the cause of the trophy drought of the Black Stars.

The former Deportivo Alaves midfielder in an interview with Angel TV accused the two main political parties New Patriotric Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for being the reason for Black Stars' failure to win the Africa Cup of Nations in 38 years.

In a U-turn after the story was run by almost every media outlet, Mubarak Wakaso took to his social media page to issue an apology for his utterance while indicating that his comments were not intended to malign any political party.

Waving into the matter in an interview with Oman FM, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe has urged Ghanaians to accept the apology of the player.

According to him, the midfielder has shown commitment to the Black Stars and hence if he has recognized his mistake and has apologized, he should be forgiven.

“I just feel for some of us who have followed the game for so long and the contribution of Mubarak Wakaso to the national team and his level of commitment, I will plead with all Ghanaians to forgive him. It is good he realized himself and came back to plead for forgiveness", the football administrator shared.

He added, “We should say he is forgiven but advise him that going forward he should be careful of the things he says. We are all humans and we make mistakes. Once he has made the mistake and comes back to ask for forgiveness, why not forgive him?".

Mubarak Wakaso has made 58 appearances for the Black Stars and has chipped in with 12 goals in the process. He remains an integral member of the team and was one of Ghana's best players at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament staged in Egypt.
