Former Ghana international John Mensah has called on Ghanaians to trust Black Stars coach Otto Addo as he believes he can turn things around for the country.

The former Dortmund talent development coach is back for a second spell with the West Africa powerhouse. He replaced Chris Hughton in March following an unimpressive performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast early this year.

Otto Addo has led the Black Stars in four games since making a return to coach the national team.

Ghana suffered defeat to Nigeria and played out a drawn game against Uganda during the international break in March.

The Black Stars stepped up their performance last month during the 2026 World Cup qualifying games against Mali and Central Africa Republic, where the Black Stars secured a back to back wins to revive their qualification hopes.

John Mensah and Otto Addo played together during their playing days.

Speaking to the media, the former Lyon and Sunderland defender entreated Ghanaian to trust Otto Addo as he believes he can turn the fortunes of the Black Stars around.

“Otto Addo is doing well. It is not easy as Ghanaians see it. He is managing to unite the team. I think the team did well in their last two World Cup qualification games. Let’s trust the coach and support him and I think he will do well”

“Previously, it was difficult for us but you can see they are performing now. They are picking up and I will plead with the fans to exercise patience for the team and I think they will do much better” he said.

Currently, Ghana sits second in the Group I standings for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, accumulating 9 points after four games. The qualifying series will resume in March 2025.
