Liverpool Chiefs 'Baffled' by Reports Linking Reds With Israeli Sponsorship Deal

A story linking Israel with a potential sponsorship deal with Liverpool has been found to be untrue.

Jonathan Kane, Liverpool's director of international business development, was pictured with Yariv Levin, Israel's tourism minister, at the World Travel Market fair in London earlier this week, with stories abounding that Liverpool had agreed some kind of sponsorship deal with the country.

However, the Liverpool Echobelieve the meeting was just one of many Kane held with potential suitors from around the world, and that no deal was agreed, nor does it look likely that there may a similar deal agreed in the future. Echo journalist James Pearce has also confirmed the rumours are false.

@DACrookster It's not true

An Israeli website,ynetnews.com, had previously claimed a deal was in the works, with the Israeli flag appearing on Liverpool's kit and inside Anfield in a hypothetically bizarre mix of football and world politics.

A club representative noted that the initiative and desire to work with Israel stems from the club's owners, two of whom are Jewish," the site stated, as quoted by the Echo.

According to the representative, the sponsorship with significantly generate further tourism to Israel.

In addition to the Israeli logo appearing on the sports kit and in the home stadium.... it will also feature on the club's active social media pages. Players will also be brought to visit the country.

Liverpool have had Israeli footballers such asYossi Benayoun and Ronnie Rosenthal at the club in the past, both of whom enjoyed moderately successful periods with the Reds before moving on.
