Liverpool Hoping to Sign Borussia Monchengladbach Midfielder in the Summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful of signing long-term target Mahmoud Dahoud for a sum as cheap as £8.5m in the summer.

Klopp is thought to be a huge fan of the German midfielder, with a move for him in January believed to have been his ideal plan. Monchengladbach weren't willing to sell midway through the season, so Dahoud stayed with the Bundesliga club.

Dahoud's current deal with Monchengladbach runs out in 2018, although Calciomercato (viaThe Kop Times) say that there is a clause in his deal that means he can leave for £8.5m in the summer of 2017.

After making his debut for Monchengladbach in 2014, Dahoud established himself as a key member of the midfield during the 2015/16 season, where he made forty-one appearances, scoring five goals under new manager Andre Schubert. He has yet to earn a call-up for the senior German national team, although he has made six appearances for the U21 side.

Although this season hasn't been as successful so far, with the twenty-one year old making twenty appearances and scoring only one goal, Liverpool are still eager to strengthen in the midfield area.

Klopp's side have endured a miserable start to 2017, with his midfield a specific area where they've beenstruggling. Emre Can in particular has come under-fire for his performances. Dahoud is seen as an ideal replacement to fill in that holding role.

While Liverpool will hope to land their man in the summer, they are sure to face competition from other European clubs, with Barcelona and PSG reported to be interested.
