Liverpool Legend Holding 'Exploratory' Talks Over England Role Following Return to Merseyside

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has held "exploratory talks" with senior FA officials over a coaching role in the England setup, according to the Independent.

Gerrard recently took on a coaching role with the Reds in their youth setup to get his non-playing career up and running, which he described as "completing the circle".

According to the paper, the 36-year-old was keen to add international experience to his CV and has apparently been speaking to the FA's technical director Dan Ashworth about a possible way into the national team's coaching setup.

The FA are believed to want to introduce some of England's "golden generation" into proceedings ahead of the next World Cup in 2018, and it's like they could bestarting with Gerrard.

The former midfielder represented his country 114 times and would certainly be a coup for the FA - they know the reputation and aura carried by Gerrard, and anticipate him to prove a huge hit amongst the younger players.

The ex-captain hung up his boots for the Three Lions back in 2014, and thenfrom football entirelyin November 2016 after a brief spell at LA Galaxy in the MLS, which led to tributes and widespread adulation for one of the Premier League's all time greats.

As well as hisacademy role at Liverpool, where he has been in place since January, he has also appeared as a pundit for BT Sport and Sky Sports on several occasions.
