Liverpool Star Admits He 'Doesn't Love' Playing in His Current Position

Current Liverpool left-back James Milner has admitted he doesn't particularly enjoy playing in defence, but has stated he will always do what is best for Liverpool.

Following Alberto Moreno's shocker at Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season, Milner has been given the role at left-back and made it his own, impressing fans and pundits alike with his adaptability.

Speaking to the Times as quoted by theDaily Star, Milner admitted left-back is not a position that comes naturally to him but also claimed the team will always come first.

I am not going to turn around and lie and say ˜I love playing there', Milner revealed.

But if that is me being part of a successful team and contributing then I will do anything I can for Liverpool.

Ultimately, the team comes first.

If that is what is best for the team then you do it."

Milner has spent the majority of his career as a midfielder or a winger, but his move to left-back has gone as smoothly as manager Jurgen Klopp could have hoped for. The former England international also revealed he hasn't studied other defenders as preparation for the role, as to do so would be 'pointless'.

"Full-back is a position which changes massively depending on who the manager is," Milner continued.

"A left-back now is different to a left back 10 years ago and that is why I have not studied anyone.

"It would be pointless, and a left-back for Jürgen Klopp is going to be playing a lot different to a left-back for another manager.

I would find it harder playing left back for another manager in another system because Jürgen likes his full-backs to play, he wants his teams to be fluid.
