Liverpool Veteran Midfielder Makes Decision on Anfield Future as Contract Runs Down

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva will leave Anfield after ten years at the club when his current contract expires next summer, according toCalciomeracto.

The Brazilian, 29, has accepted that his role under Jurgen Klopp is that of a bit part player, and will leave the club in order to seek regular first-team opportunities.

Lucas was informed by Klopp last season that he did not figure prominently in the German coach's plans and, while a proposed move to Galatasary fell through last summer as Klopp decided he needed the player as cover, he is expected to move on at the end of the season.

Lucas has been used as a centre-half in recent years and is currently ahead of Mamadou Sakho and Ragnar Klavan in the pecking order but, at 29, knows he can still offer his services full-time to a different club.

The former Gremio star insisted the Reds can win their first Premier League title this season under the wise tutelage of Klopp.

"Yes I think we can with the title. We have had very good results and playing against some very hard teams and we've showed that if we perform the way we are at this moment, we believe we can win the title," he told Sky Sports.

"But it is a very early stage. I have been top of the league in other years at this stage around Christmas time and ended up not winning so we have to go game by game and it is a long season.

"There are times that we will be struggling as every team does and we will have to be able to cope with that, still collect as many points as we can and see where it will take us by May.
