Man Utd hit with FA charge for Herrera protests at Chelsea

Manchester United have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players.

Red Devils players swarmed around referee Michael Oliver when protesting the red card shown to Ander Herrera in the 35th minute of Monday night's FA Cup quarter-final loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Herrera had been shown a second yellow card for fouls on Eden Hazard and the United side felt the second caution in particular was not warranted.

The FA statement said: "Manchester United have been charged for failing to control its players.

"It follows an incident in the 35th minute of The FA Cup quarter final match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday [Monday 13 March 2017].

"The club have until 6pm on Friday 17 March 2017 to respond to the charge."
