Manchester City boss Guardiola hints at future Serie A move

After spending stints playing for Brescia and Roma back in the 2000s, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola might also consider coaching in Serie A in the future.

The 47-year-old was present at the Festival of Sport in Trento, northern Italy and he revealed his admiration for the country as well as its football.

“In Italy, Spain, Germany, [and] Brazil the talent is there,” Guardiola told RMC Sport. “There are good and young players like there are good coaches.

“I often come to your country, I like it a lot. For the future on a professional level, we will see.”

The Citizens coach was asked about Sassuolo tactician Roberto De Zerbi, who has been considered to be a little Guardiola due to his teams emphasising on possession and making plenty of passes.

“They have spoken to me very highly of him and of his teams,” Guardiola added. “He encourages a proactive style of football. We judge the results but there are well-prepared coaches here.”

The former Barcelona and Bayern tactician was asked about his time playing for Brescia, and he had positive memories of his coach Carlo Mazzone, especially from a 3-3 draw in the 2001/02 Serie A season.

“I remember that in a match between Brescia and Atalanta, he went under the curva and I thought, ‘What am I doing here?’,” he said.

“He helped me a lot, he is a proper person. I send him a big hug.”
