Manchester City defender Pablo Maffeo has joined Spanish side Girona on loan, the club have confirmed.

The 19-year-old has made three first-team appearances so far this season, playing in City's Champions League playoff againstSteaua Bucuresti and their group match against Celtic, while he also featured in the EFL Cup defeat against Manchester United

"Manchester City defender Pablo Maffeo has joined Spanish side Girona on loan until the end of the season," the club confirmed on theirwebsite.

"The agreement begins on January 1 and sees the 19-year-old return the club he played 13 games for last season.

Maffeo has found first-team opportunities difficult to come by, despite manager Pep Guardiola consistently changing his starting team throughout the season.

The likes of Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta have been utilised as right-backs throughout the season, but the loan move should see Maffeo given ample game time.

"Maffeo joined City in 2013 and has progressed rapidly through the club's academy system.
