Manchester City to Pocket Huge Sum if Barca Star Denis Suarez Plays Against Them on Wednesday

Manchester City are to pocket a handsome sum of money if former player Denis Suarez lines up for Barcelona against them in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

According to recent reports in major Spanish publications AS and Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will have to pay City around £720k (€800k) if Suarez features for Luis Enrique's Catalan giants.

The Spaniard - who was an exciting youth prospect at City until he joined Barca - completed a permanent switch from Villarreal to the La Liga champions in the summer.

However, the terms of his 2013 deal are nuanced and complex, with several written clauses set to take effect if he features in the Champions League blockbuster which sees Pep Guardiola return to his stomping ground.

One of those clauses may benefit City massively in the long run. It stipulates that Barca mustpay instalments of€800k to City for every ten appearances Suarez makes.Suarez has so far made nine appearances for Barcelona this season, meaning the City game could be his tenth.

He's unlikely to start against City, with Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic still Enrique's first-choice midfield trio, but he may still feature from the bench.

Suarez recently said he understands Enrique's reasons for not playing him regularly, admitting that he faces some of the stiffest competition for places available.

"We are all prepared to play," he said. "The squad's big. The international break didn't help, either, because there are a lot of games and a there's lots of travelling."
