Manchester United Left Embarrassed After Security Failure Sees 2 Fans Sleep Inside Old Trafford

Manchester United have been left embarrassed after it emerged two fans were able to sleep at Old Trafford prior to the Red Devils' Premier League match with Arsenal.

According to theDaily Mail, the two students were so desperate to catch the game that they decided to sleep in toilets after splintering from a tour group. The fans were only spotted the morning after, and although police were called to the stadium in light of the event, no arrests were made.

A Manchester United spokesman said: "We realise people will go to any lengths to watch a game at Old Trafford but these people went too far. The fact that they and their belongings had been searched before entry means we are confident there was no risk to safety."

United have faced security problems in recent times, having to abandon a Premier League match with Bournemouth after discovering a suspicious device, which later turned out to be fake - the stadium was evacuated 20 minutes before kick-off, with United being roundly criticised for failing to identify the dummy device during their preliminary sweep of Old Trafford.

A Daily Mail source stated: "You honestly could not make it up. The two have gone on the tour on the Friday and for some reason, they must not have counted the numbers in and out and they have stayed there overnight without anyone seeing them.

"After the Bournemouth fiasco they retrained all the staff and beefed up security and searches but then this happens."

Saturday's Premier Leaguematches saw United draw 1-1 with Arsenal, with Olivier Giroud's late header cancelling out Juan Mata's earlier strike.
