Manchester United Set to Secure Signings of Highly-Rated Benfica Defensive Duo

Manchester United are set to complete the signings of Benfica defenders Victor Lindelof andNelson Semedo in January, according to reports in Portugal.

United have been linked with a move for Sweden international Lindelof over the past few weeks, and Portuguese publicationRTPbelieve the deal is already completed. Lindelof is set to sign for the club when the transfer window officially opens in January.

The 22-year-old is set to take the currently vacantnumber two shirt at Old Trafford, and will provide competition to the likes of Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly, all of whom have played regularly at some stage this season. The deal will reportedly be worth £38m, and Benfica could be set to lose another first-team star to the Red Devils.

Right-back Nelson Semedo has also been linked with a move to Jose Mourinho's side, with United reportedly beating the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona to sign the 23-year-old.

However, Benfica are eager to retain the full-back and keep their own ambitions for the rest of the season in tact, and will look to hold on to the defender until the summer.

Antonio Valencia has played at right-back this season with Matteo Darmian playing on the other flank, while Rojo and Jones have impressed in recent weeks playing at centre-back.

United had looked leaky at the back, but their defence have conceded just twice in four Premier League games.

United have closed the gap on the top four in recent weeks thanks to a run of four Premier League wins in a row, and will look to continue that good form when they entertain Middlesbrough on New Year's Eve.
