Manchester United stormed back to defeat Newcastle United 4-1 in Premier League play at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Matthew Longstaff scored in the 17th minute, moments after Dwight Gayle completely missed the net in a one-on-one with David De Gea -- the United summer target stroking low and hard past a sprawling De Gea from the middle of the box.

The goal meant that Manchester United have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 14 league matches, marking their worst run since the 1969-1970 season when they gave up a goal in 21 straight games.

Anthony Martial quickly answered with a well-placed shot at the near post that hit the hands of Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka before bulging the net.

United took the lead 12 minutes later when 18-year-old Mason Greenwood's powerful hit beat Dubravka -- though it took a slight deflection -- after a terrible Magpies giveaway outside of the box.

The impressive hosts took control three minutes from half-time through Marcus Rashford, who out-jumped a defender to head home an Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross after another Newcastle turnover in their own area.

After the break, Martial needed only six minutes to complete the scoring on a satisfying evening for the Red Devils -- the France international running in free behind the Newcastle defense before gently lifting over an onrushing Dubravka with his right foot.

The result moves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men into seventh place with 28 points from 19 matches. Newcastle are in 10th with 25 points.
