Marouane Fellaini Set to Start Up Front for Man Utd Against Chelsea After Sudden Striker Crisis

Published on: 12 March 2017

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho looks set to hand polarising Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini a start up front against Chelsea on Monday night, after suffering a sudden injury crisis on the eve of the game.

With Mourinho already missing Zlatan Ibrahimovic through suspension,Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have been ruled out of the FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge with injury and illness respectively, leaving Wayne Rooney the most likely man to lead the line for United - until he was injured himself on Sunday, in a training ground collision with Phil Jones.

Ibrahimovic: Suspended
Martial: Injured
Rashford: Ill
Rooney: Jones'd

If ever there was a game for Pogba to do something...

MailOnline Sportreport that Fellaini could be the man to get the nod in the absence of any of Mourinho's first four choices up front - having briefly filled the role in the past to mixed success.

Ashley Young and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been touted as other possible options if Mourinho decides to attempt to burn Chelsea's back line with pace, but given his typically conservative style in tricky away games, Fellaini appears to be the most likely option.

Martial, Rashford, Rooney and Ibrahimović all out of the FA Cup game vs Chelsea. Time to step up, Marouane ˜lethal finisher' Fellaini.

United are winless in their last 11 fixtures against the Blues, and face a tricky game against the runaway Premier League leaders if they're to add to their EFL Cup triumph at the end of the season.

Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City are waiting for United in a star-studded semi-final lineup, having all dispatched their respective quarter-final opponents with relative comfort over the weekend - although Spurs lost Harry Kane to an injury which may rule him out for the rest of the season, boosting the top four hopes of United and those around them.
