Michael Essien supports Chelsea’s decision to appoint Frank Lampard as new head coach

Chelsea FC legend, Michael Essien has shared that he believes the club took the right decision by appointing former teammate Frank Lampard as the team’s new head coach.

Lampard who is the club’s highest goal scorer returned to his boyhood club as a manager this summer and is set to lead the English Premier League side in the upcoming regular season.

Speaking in an interview with South Africa based iono.fm, Michael Essien has backed the decision to give the job to the club’s idol whiles indicating that he hopes everything goes well during his tenure.

“I think it’s’ a good decision to bring Lampard to the club. He is a Chelsea boy, Chelsea man. He's being there for many years”.

“He knows everywhere and everyone at the club. He is going to get all the help he needs. He is a type of guy who likes the young players”.

“I think about Chelsea gives the young players the chance to come through. We are all keeping our fingers crossed and hopefully, everything goes well for him”.

“They (fans) will always wish him well. We have to support him to ensure he succeeds”, the former Ghana Black Stars midfield general said.

Lampard starts off his season with Chelsea in a trip to Old Trafford next weekend in what will be a cracking open to the 2019/2020 season.
