Former Ghana international, Michael Essien rejected the offer to deputize Otto Addo, the local media have reported.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have reappointed Otto Addo as the new head coach for the senior national team.

Addo has replaced Chris Hughton, who was sacked after Ghana's poor performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast where Ghana suffered a second consecutive group phase exit.

Former Ghana defender, John Paintsil and German-born Moroccan trainer, Joseph Lauman have been appointed as the first and second assistant coaches while Fatawu Dauda has been named as the new goalkeeper's trainer.

However, according to Accra-based Original FM, Otto Addo contacted Micheal Essien for the assistant coaching job after his appointment but the former Chelsea midfielder and Champions League winner turned the offer.

According to the reports, Essien, who is the assistant coach of FC Nordsjaelland told Otto Addo that he was not ready for the job at the moment.

Otto Addo has been offered an initial 32-month deal with an option of another 24-month deal.

He is expected to be in the dugout for Black Stars' friendly games against Nigeria and Uganda later this month in Morroco.
