Michy Batshuayi marked his Borussia Dortmund debut with a pair of goals before Andre Schurrle netted a winner in a 3-2 victory at Cologne on Friday.

Batshuayi, who completed a deadline-day loan from Chelsea, put Dortmund ahead in the 35th minute by turning in a low pass from Jeremy Toljan.

He very nearly had a second goal just before half-time by redirecting another Toljan pass, but this strike was ruled out for offside after a video review.

The hosts responded on the hour mark when Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki could only parry Dominique Heintz's shot into the path of Simon Zoller, who stooped to head home.

But Batshuayi restored Dortmund's lead just two minutes later, poking home from the corner of the six-yard box after being played in by Christian Pulisic.

Cologne remained undaunted and equalised again with a Jorge Mere header following Jonas Hector's corner.

But with six minutes to play, Dortmund broke out on a counter-attack, and with Batshuayi and Pulisic waiting for a pass, Schurrle decided to shoot himself and curled his shot into the net.

Cologne very nearly struck back for a third time with Marco Hoger's shot appearing headed for the top corner, before defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos did well to head the ball over the bar.

The result was Dortmund's first win of 2018 following a difficult spell.
