Midfielder Jordan Henderson Brushes off Comparison to Free-Scoring Liverpool Team Two Years Ago

Published on: 08 November 2016

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has dismissed comparisons between Jurgen Klopp's Reds and Brendan Rodgers' side from two years ago.

The Anfield club topped the table after destroying Watford 6-1 on Sunday and their free-scoring style of play has inevitably drawn comparison to the 2013/14 side that came to within touching distance of pipping Manchester City to the Premier League title.

However, Henderson has concentrated his praise on the current crop of players, warning other teams that the club's litany of attacking talents still have plenty to offer after making a devastating start to the season.

"They are all fantastic," Henderson said via theDaily Mailabout Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho.

"Every single one of them is top class. I don't really like comparing this team to a couple of seasons ago.I prefer to concentrate on this team and what we're good at and what we're doing. That's the most important thing. The team of 2013/14 is in the past.

"I see them every day. They are world class. It's a pleasure to be playing with them. It's our job to ensure that we offer protection for them when they are going forward and expressing themselves.

"We have a lot of quality and in the final third they've been brilliant over the past few weeks."

Henderson also heaped praise on exciting summer signingMane, who has been excellent for the Reds this season, showing no signs of being weighed down by his £34m price-tag.

"He was a big talent at Southampton. From his performances and the goals he scored, you could see the ability he had.

"Since he's come here he's gone up another level and you have to give credit to the manager and to his staff for that.

"You have to give credit to Sadio himself for the work he's put in. He's gone up another level tactically and in terms of intelligence. I'm sure Sadio would tell you the same. But he's also put in the hard work and that's what's getting him the rewards."
