Milan Clubs Both in the Hunt for Out of Favour Liverpool Defender as January Approaches

Liverpool centre-half Mamadou Sakho has been frozen out of manager Jurgen Klopp's plans thus far this season, but rumours suggest that he is attracting attention from both Milan clubs, Inter and AC Milan.

The Frenchman has been out of favour since pre-season, when his tardiness and relaxed attitude are thought to have angered Klopp, andFootball Italiareport that the Italian city rivals are set to go head to head for Sakho's signature.

TheMirrorclaim that the Milanese giants face competition from Tony Pulis' West Bromwich Albion, with the Baggies also thought to be lining up a loan swoop for the 26-year-old.

The former Paris Saint Germain centre half reportedly rejected a move to the West Midlands in the summer, potentially with a view to resurrecting his Anfield career, but may be more open to a move now that it has become clear that there is no way back for Sakho under Klopp's management.

All three potentialsuitors may be put off by Sakho's lack of match fitness. The defender, who has made twenty eight appearances for the French national team, scoring two goals, has not played a single game this season, but he has been training with Liverpool's second string in order to keep his fitness levels up.

Sakho has found it difficult to get back into the Reds' first team since he was banned for using a fat burner that UEFA erroneously stated was on their banned list.

Sakho suffered a 30-day ban as a result of the error, which FIFA extended to cover football across the world, before it was later revealed that UEFA had no grounds on which to ban Sakho.

On 11 May, during the period covered by Sakho's ban, Didier Deschamps announced his France squad to compete at the Euro 2016 tournament at which they were hosts, and given the injury crisis Les Bleus suffered in defensive areas, it is likely that Sakho would have been selected if not for his ban.

However, UEFA's error meant the eccentric Frenchman missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime.
