MP Accuses the FA of Failing to Investigate Sensational Corruption Claims Made Against Neil Warnock

A Parliamentary select committee has been told that the FA failed to act accordingly over claims that newly appointedCardiff City manager,Neil Warnock, took bribes from players to feature in his side, according to theEvening Standard.

MP Damian Collins, who is the acting chair of the select committee on Culture, Media and Sport, told members of the meeting, which included FA chairmanGreg Clarke, that English football's governing bodyhad done little to address concerns made byJason Puncheon on Twitter in 2014.

Questions of corruption in footballhave resurfaced following the dismissal of national manager Sam Allardyce over comments he made in a newspaper sting conducted by the Daily Telegraph last month.

Football manager Neil Warnock 'made players pay him to get into team' MPs told https://t.co/kZ6k6t2gbl

The tweets from Jason Puncheon, who at the time played under Neil Warnock for Crystal Palace, were removed from his account as the player was fined £15kby the FA, who at the time insisted he had "failed to act in the spirit of the game."

The commentswere posted following Palace's 2-0 defeat at Tottenham in January 2014, where Warnock criticised Puncheon for missing a crucial penalty during the game.

Puncheon's tweetsread: ˜What I won't accept is an opinion from a man who's crooked and ruining the game.

'Neil Warnock, the man who signs players, gives them extra wages and appearance bonuses to make sure that they pay him to get into the team or on the bench.

'The fact he could even talk about training is shocking, he was never there.'

In response to the allegation andevidenceprovided by MP DamianCollins, GregClarke, who was not FA chairman at the time, said:I think it would be pretty poor if someone has gone public and they don't have any contact from the FA asking why have they made this allegation.

It should be noted that Puncheon later retracted his comments in 2014,making his apology for the accusations which he said were unfounded, public on Twitter.

...personal I have apologised to Neil and withdrawn my allegations about him, which I accept were unfounded. We move on.

Neil Warnock's current club, Cardiff City, are yet to comment on the matter following this latest development.
