No Local players in Black Stars squad for Mali friendly

Published on: 25 September 2020

Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has omitted locally based players from his 23-man squad for next month’s friendly game against Mali.

Footballghana.com understands that this is as a result of the inactivity of the players in the country since March following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic which led to the cancellation of the 2019/2020 season.

CK Akonnor handed call-ups to four Ghana Premier League (GPL) stars in his first squad announcement since his appointment as head coach of Ghana's national team in January.

However, none of these players earned a call-up.

Black Stars, who has been without a competitive game since November 2019 will play the Eagles of Mali on September 09, in Antalya, Turkey as part of the team’s preparations for the AFCON qualifier against Sudan.
