Otto Addo should stamp his authority and let Black Stars know he is the boss – Stephen Appiah

Former Ghana captain, Stephen Appiah, has thrown his weight behind Otto Addo, urging him to assert his authority over the Black Stars squad upon his return as head coach.

Addo was re-appointed as the permanent coach following the dismissal of Chris Hughton post the disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Cote d'Ivoire.

Since his reinstatement, Addo has already managed two games, suffering a defeat against Nigeria and drawing with Uganda during the March international break.

Appiah stressed the importance of Addo establishing his authority, emphasizing that tough decisions need to be made for the team's success.

"He [Otto Addo] should let the players know that he is the boss. This is the situation where you have to put your foot down. I was with him in 2006 and he knows how important the World Cup is to Ghanaians,” he told 3Sports.

Looking ahead, Addo is gearing up for the doubleheader against Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana is slated to face Mali in Bamako on June 6, followed by a match against the Central African Republic on June 10 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
