Asante Kotoko owner and life patron Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has heaped on praise former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan during his 23rd Anniversary and Thanksgiving service in Kumasi on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old joined Otumfuo to celebrate his twenty-third year anniversary as Asantehene and the 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool at the St Cyprians’ Church in Fante New Town.

"One of Otumfuo’s loyal children is here, and he has asked me to introduce him. He is known as Asamoah Gyan," said Daasebre Osei Bonsu.

"He has been visiting Otumfuo and the King is grateful for that. He was the best striker during the 2010 FIFA World Cup hosted in Africa as he scored many goals for Guana."

"Continue to do your best for Ghana football to improve and also as a way to honour your late mother," Otumfuo said.

Meanwhile, Gyan will have his much-anticipated book launched at a star-studded event on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Gyan, who is currently without a club is the all-time leading goalscorer of the Black Stars, with 51 goals.

He represented Ghana at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.

With six goals, he is the top African goalscorer in the history of the World Cup.

The 36-year-old has also represented Ghana at the 2004 Summer Olympics and in seven Africa Cup of Nations in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019, helping them finish in third-place in 2008 and runner-up in 2010 and 2015.
