West Ham United are targeting Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson in January as he looks for more first team opportunities. If a move did take place, this would be Jenkinson's third loan move to the Hammers in as many years.

According to theEvening StandardWest Ham are looking to the 24-year-old to help improve their defence this season. The other teams that areinterested in the defender are Hull, Swansea and Championship Villa.

Jenkinson has made just five appearances for Arsenal this season, the last of which came in their 2-0 home defeat to Southampton in the EFL Cup quarter finals.

Despite Jenkinson being the only recognised right back behind Bellerin, during an injury to the Spaniard it was centre-back Gabriel Paulista who was preferred, highlighting further that Jenkinson is surplus to requirements.

Arsene Wenger then explained the decision about dropping him on December 3rd:You think you are there and then you will play and realise you are not as good as you think you should be and you lose confidence. He is going through that period at the moment."

In total during his loans at West Ham, Jenkinson made 59 appearances over two seasons in East London, but suffered a serious knee injury last January and had to return back to parent club Arsenal.

West Ham are currently 13th in the Premier League having endured a tough first half of the season. They have shipped in 31 goals, the 4th highest in the league so far andthe January signing of a defender might just be needed.
