The 43-year-old Mabedi played for Chiefs for eight seasons between 1998 and 2006, and leaves his post as head coach of National First Division side Cape Town All Stars to take up the role.

The ex-defender won two league titles and the 2001 African Cup Winners' Cup among other pieces of silverware and spent three seasons as club captain.
