Jose Mourinho questions the attitude of some Manchester United players after a turbulent start to the season.

Paul Scholes thinks Jose Mourinho is embarrassing Manchester United and suggested the Portuguese coach could have been sacked after the defeat to West Ham.

United were beaten 3-1 at the London Stadium and Scholes believes the performance was so poor it could have cost Mourinho his job.

"I'm actually slightly surprised he survived after Saturday, the performance was so bad," the former England midfielder told BT Sport ahead of the Champions League clash with Valencia on Tuesday.

Mourinho was again critical of his players in his pre-match programme notes suggesting his team had lost their "dignity" at West Ham. It is the latest in a series of barbed comments aimed at his squad including saying at a news conference on Monday that some of his players "care more than others."

"He's coming out in press conferences constantly having a go at players, having at go at people above him because he's not getting what he wants," said Scholes.

"I think his mouth is out of control and I think he's embarrassing the club."
