The government has decided to provide support to SMEs in the country amidst the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis and has set aside one billion Cedis to offer that cushioning.

With football also massively affected by the Covid-19 disease, the football circle led by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been pleading with the government to lend a helping hand.

Speaking to Joy News today, Perry Okudzeto has unfortunately revealed that the football community is not included in the government stimulus package.

He explained, “The stimulus package we know is for small scale and medium scale businesses, SMEs. Football or sports is not included in the package as we speak but discussions are ongoing”.

Meanwhile, he has indicated that the government is considering proposals [one from the Ghana FA] and will make a decision on them very soon.

“We have received proposals from various federations on the state and the sort of their federations and the sort of help they may require going forward.

“We are considering the proposals and at the appropriate time when a decision is taken on what support will go to particular federations those announcements will be made”, the Deputy Sports Minister said.
