Mr Mark Addo, the Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has admitted that player exodus is hampering the progress of the Ghana Premier League.

For the past years, the clubs have failed to keep their best players due to the huge financial burden.

Clubs are forced to sell their players to make money to be able to run their clubs.

Last year, Yaw Annor, who emerged as the top goalscorer of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League joined Egyptian side, Ismaili.

Ahead of the new 2023/24 season, Hafiz Konkoni, who scored 15 goals for Bechem United has joined Young Africans SC.

Mr Addo speaking in an interview admitted that the constant player exodus is hampering the progress of the local league.

"We need a strong local league to get quality players who can feed into our national teams," he told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

"It is not easy for the clubs but the player exodus is not helping," he added.

Meanwhile, the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season will get underway in mid-September later this year.
