Pochettino 'Very Happy' With Southampton Star's Return From Injury But Is Coy About Transfer Link

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has expressed his joy at the return of Jay Rodriguez, who has endured a nightmare two years with constant injury problems.

"I was happy to see him on the pitch again. He suffered a very bad injury and I remember, fresh in my mind, that day at Manchester City,"Pochettino toldSky Sports.

"I was very happy [to see him score a brace]. I sent him a text."

Pochettino added:"He's a top player, a top man and we were happy to see him score against Bournemouth.

"Now though we will suffer him because he will be our enemy and our opponent. But I'm happy he's back to his level. He's a top person."

Spurs now only remain fifth, one place ahead of Manchester United, by goal difference but have the chance to extend the distance when they face Rodriguez's Southampton this Wednesday.

When asked about whether or not a potential move for the forward may be on the cards however, the Argentine responded:"There were a lot of players linked with Tottenham at that moment."

Whilst Poch doesn't confirm any interest in the Saints man, he doesn't deny it either, and given Vincent Janssen's struggle to settle into English football, it's easy to see why the Spurs boss may be interested in another striker.

Harry Kane missed a chunk of the season through injury, which often left Pochettino with Janssen as his only option in Kane's absence - instead, the Argentine opted to go with Son Heung-Min through the middle on several occasions; the South Korean has scored five times in the league this season.

Kane leads the way with seven goals, which equates to 0.62 goals per game, whilst Janssen's one goal in 13 Premier League games is a measly 0.15 goals per game - less than Spurs left-back Danny Rose(0.17).

Whilst Kane doesn't need replacing, a case can be made that Janssen does and Spurs are probably the only team in the title race - sort of - without a decent array of striking options.

Perhaps this could tempt Poch to return to his former club to pinch the returning Rodriguez?
