Rangers youngster Billy Gilmore is being watched by European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich, according to theDaily Record.

Gilmore, who is also said to be interesting top clubs in England, has featured for Scotland's U16 side recently, and was reportedly watched by Barcelona's chief youth scout six weeks ago as they lost 4-0 against France.

Despite the loss, the scout was impressed with Gilmore's ability and reportedly travelled to Edinburgh to watch the 15-year-old in action in the Victory Shield.

The scout wasn't the only representative from Europe's top clubs monitoring the youngster, however, with Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal all reportedly present at the game.

One source told the Daily Record thatthe Barcelona scout was present to see whether Gilmore has the characteristics of players who have played for the Catalan club, such as Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

"Sadly, Scotland has produced only two standout kids in recent years - Islam Feruz and Darren Fletcher. Now Rangers have Billy Gilmour and Celtic are developing Karamoko Dembele and the top clubs all want them.

Barcelona came to watch just Billy in the game against France and see him as a player in the Xavi or Iniesta mould in terms of his size and technical ability.

It's going to be very difficult for Rangers to hold onto him beyond the end of the season, when he turns 16. The top sides from abroad can offer money beyond the reach of Rangers and Celtic.

Rangers could only make a potential (but paltry)£100k in compensation should Gilmore leave under current FIFA rules, while Celtic have a similar problem with 13-year-old Dembele, who has previously been linked with Barcelona and is now being watched by many top clubs in Europe.
