Real Madrid Play Unexpected Role in Potential Transfer of Arsenal Youngster on Loan at Granada

Published on: 05 January 2017

Arsenal loanee Jon Toral has told Rangers that he may end his loan spell at Granada to join the Scottish side - but only after he faces Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old is Rangers boss Mark Warburton's number one priority target for the January transfer window, and Toral is expected to cut short his season-long loan deal with Granada to join the Scottish giants until the end of the season.

However, the Daily Record reports that Toral will only move to Ibrox once he has featured against La Liga heavyweights Real at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

Toral has endured a tough six months at Granada, having made only six appearances for the Andalusian outfit since he completed a season-long loan switch from the Emirates back in June.

Warburton flew to Granada to try and talk Toral into ending his spell at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes, and instead spend the second half of the 2016/17 campaign helping his Rangers side finish as high as possible in the Scottish Premier League.

Despite being intrigued by Warburton's proposal, however, Toral has insisted that he remains a Granada player for the time being, and would not be drawn on his future when asked about it.

He said: When there is interest in you from such a big club then it's always good but that's as much as I can say right now. It's not easy to talk about it because I am still a Granada player and we have a a game to prepare for on Saturday against Real Madrid, so my thoughts are on that. But if it happens, it happens. We'll see in the next few weeks.

I would rather speak about this later. I think it would be disrespectful to speak about other clubs now while I'm in Granada and I'm training with them. I'm a team player here, a squad player and I don't think it's right to talk about other teams right now.

"If I have to leave then it'll be different but right now I'm just thinking about the game against Real Madrid so I apologise because I can't say too much more at this moment.

Toral, who primarily plays as a centre midfielder, worked with Warburton during the pair's time together at former club Brentford, and the 54-year-old remains confident that he can prise the Spain Under-17 international away from his temporary home to join his cause in Scotland.
