Real Tamale United (RTU) has returned to the Ghana Premier League after securing promotion from Zone 1 of the Division One League.

The Tamale based club are returning to the domestic top-flight for the first time in eight-years after defeating Unity FC on final day of the 2020/21 Division One League.

RTU inflicted a 2-0 win over their opponent at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday to secure promotion back to the top-flight.

Yakubu Labandow brace in the first half settled the encounter as RTU finished top of the League standings in Zone 1 amassing 65 points from 30 matches.

The Northern Region based club tied on points with Tano Bofoakwa but were better off on head to head basis.

Tano Bofoakwa failed to beat Berekum Arsenal on final day of the league which has derailed their chances of qualifying to the GPL.

The last time RTU featured in the Ghana Premier League was in the 2013/14 season.
