Ghana's Ministry for Youth, Sports, and Culture spent a staggering $1 million to cater for the air travels of the Black Stars in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign.

The West African country after failing at another attempt to win the prestigious trophy has turned its attention to the amount of money spent on the team for the just-ended tournament.

The entire citizenry has not been enthused about the idea of investing so much money in the national team and failing to get any returns.

At the Parliament House on Wednesday, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Asiamah disclosed that the government spent $1 million on just airlifting people to the tournament.

This and many other expenditures highlighted on the day has received severe backlash from the public who are angry over why the government will spend huge sums of money on football when there are other projects that need urgent attention.

The Black Stars of Ghana disappointingly got knocked out at the round of 16 stage of the 2019 AFCON and only recorded one victory out of the four matches the team played.
