After excelling on trial, he was signed to a professional contract by Roma in March of last year and sent to the club's junior levels for development.

He was an immediate sensation with the Primavera group and was given opportunity to play with the senior squad on occasion before making his professional debut in a Serie A match against Cagliari in October.

On 21 November, he came off the bench to score two late goals against Genoa, to give Roma a 2–0 win. The brace made him the first player born in 2003 to score in the Serie A.

Roma is considered favorites coming into the game, not just because of their larger profile as a club, but also because of their capacity to win difficult games.
