Real Salt Lake is hoping to make Brooks Lennon's loan move from Liverpool into a permanent transfer, sources have told ESPN FC.

Lennon, a U.S. youth international, joined Real Salt Lake on loan in January and went on to make 26 appearances during the MLS season.

He had played with Real Salt Lake's academy before joining Liverpool in 2015.

His Liverpool contract expires next summer, and the sources said it is not expected that it will be renewed.

While there is interest from Real Salt Lake, Liverpool have yet to receive a formal offer for 20-year-old Lennon.

A source said it is not yet clear whether he will leave early in a transfer or upon the expiration of his Liverpool contract.

Lennon was a regular for Liverpool under-23s until departing for his loan spell.
