Sadio Mane Insists Liverpool Have Learned From Mistakes This Season & Are Aiming for Consistency

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has insisted that the Reds have learned from their setbacks this season and are aiming for consistency in their pursuit of a top four place and a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2014.

Ahead of this weekend's Premier League clash with Burnley, Mane hopes there won't be a repeat of what happened in the reverse fixture in August when Liverpool unexpectedly lost at Turf Moor.

''We were the better team last time against Burnley because we dominated the game and created chances, but we lost. That's part of football," the £34m summer arrival told Sky Sports.

"We are going to take a lesson from it and hopefully the next game will be different. It won't be easy but we are playing at home," he added.

Consistency has been Liverpool's biggest problem all season. The Reds have swept away some of their nearest rivals, only to be held or beaten by clubs much lower down the table - defeat against a Leicester side in crisis, followed by a win against Arsenal, is a prime example of their patchy form.

"The most important thing is the reaction. We reacted [to the defeat at Leicester] by winning against Arsenal and the confidence is back now and we are looking forward," Mane explained.

"We are one of the top teams in terms of physicality. We have had bad moments so we have to accept this and look forward.

"If you want to get to another level, you have to be consistent. If you see the last few weeks, it has been difficult but we have great qualities in the team. If we want to be in the top four, we need to be consistent."

Liverpool currently sit fourth in the Premier League, two points ahead of Arsenal in fifth and three points head of Manchester United in sixth. They are four point back from both Manchester City and Tottenham, while league leaders Chelsea are out of sight at this stage of the campaign.
