American Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union have extended the contract of Ghana striker Charles Sapong.
The deal of the striker will have elapsed at the end of this current season but it has been extended up to December 2019 with an option for a further one year.
Sapong, 29, has been key for the Talern Energy Stadium outfit netting 34 goals and providing 12 assists in 100 games since his move from Kansas City in 2014.
Union boss Ernie Stewart was pleased with the deal as he believes the American-born Ghanaian can continue to help them in their quest for laurels.
“We are pleased to complete this agreement with CJ, a critical part of the spine of our team,” Union Sporting Director Earnie Stewart told the club’s website on Wednesday.
“He fits perfectly in our system with his nose for goal and his hold-up play. We’d like to thank him for his hard work and commitment to the Philadelphia Union and we look forward to working with him for years to come.”
The experienced striker scored one and provided an assist as Union beat New England Revolution in the MLS opener last week.
