Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara retires from international football aged 37

Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara has retired from international football at age 37.

Kamara made the announcement on Thursday just two months after playing for his country at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon where the Leone Stars failed to progress from the group.

"I have decided to retire from international football and focus on my club," the striker said in a press release on Thursday.

He made 39 appearances for the senior national between 2010 to 2022 and scored seven goals.

He  currently plays as a striker for CF Montréal of Major League Soccer. He is one of only 10 players to have scored 100 goals in MLS history, achieving the landmark in 300 appearances, and is currently fifth on MLS's all-time scoring list.

His retirement comes just few days after Sierra Leone were handed a tricky draw to Nigeria, Guinea Bissau, Sao Tomé/Mauritius in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Kamara has previously played for a host of clubs including Columbus Crew, San Jose Earthquakes,  Norwich City, Middlesbrough and many others.
