Simeone issues Atletico pledge

Diego Simeone has confirmed that he will be staying with Atletico Madrid beyond the end of this La Liga season.

The 47-year-old Argentinian has enjoyed an impressive spell with Los Rojiblancos having taken over the job in December 2011.

Simeone won the Europa League in his first half-season in charge and followed that up with the Copa del Rey the following campaign before securing the La Liga title in 2013-14.

I'm working so that [Antoine] Griezmann and [Jan] Oblak keep going and get even better. My future? I'm staying with Atletico.

He has also guided the club to two Champions League finals during his tenure but lost out to cross-city rivals Real Madrid on both occasions.

Following his success in Spain, Simeone has been heavily linked with moves abroad as Premier League duo Chelsea and Arsenal are both believed to be interested in taking him to England this summer, while Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be keen on acquiring his services.

However, he has now moved to quell speculation that this will be his final season at Atletico.

Speaking after Sunday's 1-1 derby draw against Real which keeps them on course to finish the season second behind runaway leaders Barcelona, Simeone said: "This is a big club and we're growing.

"I'm proud of the level this club have been at for the past decade, how we've competed against two superpowers like Madrid and Barcelona and how we've kept competing.

"I'm working so that [Antoine] Griezmann and [Jan] Oblak keep going and get even better. My future? I'm staying with Atletico."

Atletico are 1/4 to win their next La Liga clash against game against Levante on home soil this Saturday, while their opponents are priced at 14/1 and the draw is available at 9/2.
