Sky Sports Provoke Liverpool Fans With Programme Entitled 'Football Gold: Gerrard Slips'

Published on: 12 November 2016

It might be considered brave - or stupid - for Sky Sports to air a programme seemingly mocking Steven Gerrard's memorably calamitous slip. But they did.

The programme lasted just ten minutes and was followed - perhaps deliberately ironically - by 'Chelsea: Premier League Years'.

WOW: Sky Sports aired the programme 'Gerrard Slips' and placed it under the Football Gold category. 😳🔥 pic.twitter.com/kUvCW4onKk

Whether Sky Sports genuinely think the slip was in fact 'Football Gold', or were attempting to provoke Liverpool fans, is unclear.

What is clear is that a lot of Liverpool fans weren't happy - understandably so. Gerrard's slip allowed Demba Ba to give Chelsea the lead in a defeat that ultimately played a big part in Liverpool's failure to win the Premier League that season.

A season that was Gerrard's last at the club, hence the unfavourable response to Sky Sports' choice of title.

Very distasteful frm @SkySports naming an episode of football gold 'Gerrard slips'.Sure, show the game but no need for that title. #Liverpool

There's actually a "Football Gold: Gerrard Slips" on Sky. That's ridiculous

Not everyone reacted negatively, however. Some fans very much enjoyed the channel's risky sense of humour.

Football Gold. Watching Gerrard slip over and seeing Ba run through on goal 😂😂😂

Watching Football's Funniest Moments and the Gerrard slip is on here! The irony was hilarious! Comedy Gold! 😂😂😂

Some Liverpool fans may also be able to see the irony, although 'Football Gold' is unlikely to be how they would describethat particularlypainful Anfield moment.

The Reds might have the last laugh, though,if they are to beat Chelsea to the title this season, with both sides looking like the two strongest contenders on current form.
