Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk spent yesterday well way from Wembley after being dropped for defeat at Tottenham.
The Manchester City and Liverpool transfer target instead enjoyed a relaxing Boxing Day stroll on the beach as his Southampton team-mates travelled to Wembley to take on Tottenham.
Van Dijk was left out by boss Mauricio Pellegrino as speculation increased over his future at St Mary's.
"We tried to do the best for the team," said Pellegrino post-match.
"The board decided to try to keep our best player at the club.
"This situation is a big learning curve for everybody and now we decide what is the best for the club.
"He's part of our club and he's an important player for us, but we'll see what happens. I can't control the whispers and news from outside."
