Steven Gerrard Allegedly Set for Reunion with Ex-Liverpool Boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic

Steven Gerrard could be in line for a shock move to Scottish football with Celtic, according to reports from the USA and Scotland.

TheDaily Record claims that sources close to the veteran midfielder have told ESPN that he has no intentions of retiring from playing, despite kicking his last ball for Major League Soccer franchise LA Galaxy.

Gerrard is on the cusp of departing America after Galaxy failed to reach the play-off rounds and it had been speculated that he could return to boyhood club Liverpool in a coaching capacity under Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

However, rumours have now lent credence to Gerrard teaming up once again with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, with the pair said to still be close following Rodgers' time in charge at Anfield.

The duo worked together at Liverpool between June 2012 and May 2015 before Gerrard left to join Galaxy that summer, and a possible reunion could be on the cards if reports are anything to go by.

Liverpool came close to winning the Barclays Premier League title during the 2013/14 season thanks to Rodgers' brand of attacking, fast-paced football, as well as the Merseysiders boasting the likes of Gerrard and Luis Suarez in their ranks.

But the midfielder's costly slip in a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, coupled with throwing away a 3-3 draw away to Crystal Palace, put paid to Gerrard's hopes of ever winning a league championship with the club he had appeared for since November 1998.

Was there not a bit of needle between Rodgers & Gerrard? Don't no where rumours have started from but unlikely very he'll be at Celtic IMO.

Bookmakers have already listed Gerrard as likely to join upwith Rodgers at Parkhead, but whether the speculation is anything more than just rumours remains to be seen.

Gerrard, 36, has already ruled out a move back to the Premier League, citing that it would be too difficult to play against his former side for any other English top flight club.

Other European leagues such as France's Ligue 1 and Italy's Serie A remain other possibilities, however, as well as a potentially lucrative spell in China's Super League.

Gerrard made 690 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, winning 11 trophies during his 17-year career with the club, and turned out on 39 occasions across two seasons with LA Galaxy.
